An online Guest Lecture on ‘Turnaround Strategy for Fibre Business’ was organized as a part of the Strategic Management course for students of 2022-24 batch, on January 23, 2024 by Dr. K.R.Senthilvelkumar. The session was delivered by Mr. D.M. Ezhil Buddhan, Chief General Manager (Broadband Networks), BSNL, Bangalore, who explained how strategic plans are evolved and subsequently implemented at the different levels of an organization. He stated that strategic plans explain how the existing resources are best utilized for meeting the organizational objectives. He explained the need for a turnaround strategy for overcoming the challenges faced at their 3 verticals namely Consumer fixed access (fibre, landline and broadband), Mobile Services and Enterprise Business. He described the stiff competition that BSNL had to overcome from several players in the Indian market and highlighted the approaches that BSNL used to win the confidence of customers, business partners and other stakeholders finally. He disclosed that BSNL was able to provide 20 lakhs new fibre connections even during the COVID period. Mr. D.M.Ezhil Buddhan answered the questions raised by students that ranged from tools widely used for strategic planning, advice to the future managers, to the specific areas of business at BSNL that the turnaround strategy was focusing on.
