Social Impact

A team of experts from KCT visited the production centres of Gandhigram Khadi and Village Industries Public Charitable Trust, Dindigul on 24 June 2024. The team consisting of Mr.Pavendan A, Dean Textiles, Dr. G. Ramakrishnan, Head – Natural Fibre Research Centre, Dr.B.Poongodi, KCT Business School, Mr.T.Deivasigamani, Senior Handloom Weaver visited the Hand Spinning and Handloom unit at T.Subbulapuram, Theni District.

The team joined another panel consisting of Mr.Saravanan C, General Manager – Sustainability, Mr.Haribaabu V, Centre for Entrepreneurship, Ms.Preethi Meena, Faculty – Social Work for a discussion with Shri.K.Shivakumar, Managing Trustee, Dr.Shibu, CEO and Managers of various Production units of Gandhigram Khadi and VIPC Trust the same day evening. The panel discussed the limitations and problems of the production units. Gandhigram Khadi & VIPC is engaged in the business of Processed Foods, Personal & Home Care Products and Khadi Fabric & Apparel ensuring employment opportunities for rural women of that region.  Both the organisations discussed the possibilities to overcome the challenges. The visit has opened opportunities for student internship and for collaborative work for KCT Staff.
