Natural Dyeing and Handloom Products – Impact on Environment, Human Wellness and Business Innovation”

KCT Business School jointly with Department of Fashion Technology organized a National Conference & Trade Conclave on “Natural Dyeing and Handloom Products – Impact on Environment, Human Wellness and Business Innovation” on December 13, 2024, at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore.  The inauguration session of the conference started with the presidential speech Dr Raghupathy S, Director- Strategic Planning & Review, KCT, Dr Deepthi Gupta, Professor, IIT Delhi delivered Chief guest address and keynote speech. Shri C Venugopal Advisor, Quality Council of India was the guest of honour and released book of abstracts.

All participants took an oath on quality policy read by Shri Venugopal. Dr.Mary Cherian, Professor & Head, KCT Business School gave inspiring insights on Business Innovations.  Prof. Dr. Deepali Singhee, Principal, J D Birla institute delivered special address. Mr. Vignesh Raja, Manager – Technical, Textile Sector Skill Council elaborated on the functions of TSC and detailed the modules of Digi Bunai Software, an open-source CAD software for design creation, generation of graph and punching of Jacquard cards. This was followed by a Panel discussion “Natural Dyeing, Sustainable Textiles and Business Innovation” by the experts from industry and academia. The second half of the event hosted a trade conclave that attracted industry participants working in natural and sustainable textiles. Business firms participated in the trade conclave include Livbio, Coimbatore; Greenware, Erode; Gandhigram Khadi, Dindigul; Ananfit P Ltd, Chennai, Ayurvastra, Erode & Centre for Weavers, Coimbatore.

Sustainable products include Baby apparel, sarees, stoles, carpets, fashion apparel, fabrics covering hand spun, hand woven, natural dyed and natural fibre products. Around 300 footfalls witnessed the trade conclave that was organized. The workshop on natural dyeing for the participants was attended by all the participants. Dr.G.Ramakrishnan, Professor, Fashion Technology, Dr.B.Poongodi, Professor, KCT Business School, Dr.R.Priyadharshini, Head, Fashion Technology, Ms.Sri Ganapriya R, Research Associate organized this conference as part of the ongoing AICTE – Indian Knowledge Systems funded project on, “Development and Application of natural dyes for reviving handloom and improving human wellness” . Sriuma V, Sowkya M, Hrisheek S, Dinesh R, Sree Varshini K from I MBA (GM), Rithika P, Sweatha V R, Hakila Nandhana R, Swetha S, Shri Ranjani P R, Pavashshrie M, Sonali R from I MBA(PM), Kaviya S, Poorana J, Dhiksha R under the leadership of Hinduja C from II MBA(GM), KCT Business School, coordinated for the conference and trade conclave.
