Social Entrepreneurship- Project-Based Learning – Field Visit to COODU on April 27, 2022.
A Field learning trip was organized on April 27, 2022, from 12 pm to 5 pm to Community Organization for Oppressed and Depressed Upliftment – COODU at Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore. Dr Kathiresan, Secretary of COODU interacted with the students of MBA to explain the work and social impact. The course on Social Entrepreneurship has an objective to enable students to understand fundamental concepts of social entrepreneurship. The visit to COODU would enable students’ exposure to understand the means of establishing an NGO and real-time working on a project and techniques of creating social impact. Community Organisation for Oppressed and Depressed Upliftment (COODU – which in Tamil denotes “nest”), was initiated in 1995 by a group of like-minded people for social work. This Organisation actually began as an answer to the thousands of street children and juvenile delinquents in the state’s rapidly growing cities. Studying their poor socio-economic conditions and providing insights to planners and policymakers through various forums, workshops and seminars paved the way for the establishment of COODU. Now COODU has diversified into various sectors like agriculture and allied, health, rural development, tribal development, women development, water and sanitation, environment and ecology, and watershed management.
The students of MBA witnessed a presentation from the Secretary and the joint secretary of the NGO COODU. They explained the different methods of registering an NGO and the compliances thereof. Various projects implemented by the government, quasi-government and key partners including CSR of corporate were discussed. The working of a project with performance indicators and impact measurement was explained to the students. There was an hour of interaction about various operations and the intent of service by the social entrepreneur by the students.
