Guest Lecture on Application of Quality Management to Project by Dr Vasu R, BRAKES India Centre of Technical Excellence & Corporate Management Representative QHSE Systems on May 17, 2024.
The KCT Business School hosted a guest lecture titled “Application of Quality Management to Project Management” on May 17th, 2024, for MBA PM I-year students. The session commenced with a welcome address that highlighted the importance of quality management in project success and how students could benefit from applying these principles in their project management endeavors. Dr. Vasu R, BRAKES India Centre of Technical Excellence & Corporate Management Representative QHSE Systems, was the resource person. Dr. Vasu discussed the significance of quality management in achieving successful project outcomes. The lecture explored core concepts like the Deming Cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act) for continuous improvement, process mapping and improvement techniques, and Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) for minimizing project defects. Dr. Vasu explained how Quality Function Deployment (QFD) translates customer requirements into project specifications, while Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) identifies potential project risks and their impact on quality, allowing for mitigation strategies. Control charts were also addressed as a tool for monitoring and controlling project performance metrics to ensure quality is maintained. The lecture emphasized the benefits of integrating quality management practices into project management. This can lead to improved project outcomes (reduced defects, rework, errors), enhanced customer satisfaction, increased efficiency and effectiveness of project processes, and reduced project risks and costs associated with rework or quality issues. Dr. Vasu acknowledged challenges such as balancing cost, schedule, and quality objectives, integrating quality management into existing workflows, and building a team culture that prioritizes quality.
