As a part of Organizational Behavior & HR Courses, Ms. Taslima Nasreen, Founder, Change Trust delivered a guest talk on Workplace Diversity and Inclusivity for Transgenders on March 15, 2019. Her talk focused on the path trailed and taken by a transgender. Her discussion on the inequality and the ups and downs in the treatment of transgender community in the society paved way for students to understand the inequality and the reality. Acceptance of third gender among college students, is important and crucial. The very thought of acceptance by the peers and the people around them gives transgender a confidence and courage to take up careers and a sustainable livelihood. For students of HR she suggested that HR’s can provide opportunities to the third gender community. Her focus was on how to acknowledge transgenders, if they apply to the organization. She requested students to avoid stereotyping and to trust and give an opportunity to the willing and deserved third gender members to work for the organization. A transgender can work and deliver better results than normal people because they have more time, less commitments outside of work and many are capable as well as hard working. She says believe in the work done by people, appreciate people who contribute, a word of empathy can go a long way in bringing change in the community. The program ended with Ms.Sharmila & Ms.Saranya presenting a paper on Workplace Inclusivity. 30 students were part of the program and benefited from the same. This program was coordinated by Dr. Kirupa Priyadarsini M, Associate Professor & Centre Head.
