Students of I MBA (2016-18 Batch), visited the printing unit of ‘The Hindu’, Coimbatore on May 6, 2017, to understand the printing process of newspapers. The production personnel gave a clear picture about how a plain white paper turns completely into a newspaper. The entire process is handled by an automatic system from Mitsubishi Company (Japan) named “Diamond Spirit”. The machine can produce 1000 printed copies per minute without any interference and is protected by an auto sensor functioning system. The process starts with feeding the paper roll on to the machine. The news layout approved from Chennai is printed by a laser on an aluminum sheet as it has high ink affinity and sensitive quality. The initial black prints are made on paper followed by blue print, red print and yellow print for 6 pages at a time. Then the 6 pages are split according to page allocation and sent to the folding unit which folds the paper into two. Finally, the newspapers are collected in bundles, packed and dispatched to distribution centers at Pollachi, Udumalai, Salem and Erode within three hours. The students were accompanied by Dr.R.Vinayagasundaram, Associate Professor, CoO.
