A guest talk on Securities Operations in India was organized for 65 Finance Specialization students of II MBA (Batch 2019-21). The facilitator Dr. Aditya Srinivas, Chief Operating Officer, BSE Brokers Forum Mumbai explained the various functions about the front office, middle office & back office. The front office is the bank’s interface with the market. The Middle office, supports the operations of the front office in various areas, such as risk management, financial control, strategic management, and information technology. The department ensures that the deals transacted by the front office are accurately recorded and processed and that all compliance documents are filled and completed. Nevertheless, the middle office plays an important role in acting as a link between the front office and back office and assists both divisions by capturing and monitoring important market data. The back office includes all of the services and duties that must be carried out when trades are made by the front office: clearing and settlement. There are many administrative roles, which play a vital part in the overall functioning of the bank and the world of trading. The guest also spoke elaborately about risk management and risk mitigation in a securities broking firm. He encouraged to refrain letting the emotions come between the trading style and strategy. Never use fixed stop positions. And to minimize the risks, it is must that a trader should undertake the current trends in setting new stop-loss and take-profit positions. The program was organized by Dr. Mohanamani P, Assistant Professor- Finance.
