As part of Diploma in Banking programme, a guest lecture was arranged on Rural Banking – Opportunities and challenges on December 26, 2020. The guest speaker was Mr. Senthil Kumar, AGM& Regional head, ICICI Bank Ltd, CBE- Rural and Inclusive Banking Group. Rural banking is simply a banking service that serves smaller, rural communities. They tend to be deeply embedded in the communities they serve. In his lecture, Mr. Senthil Kumar explained the several functions of Rural banking. He also put light on the recent facilities taken up by rural banks. He elaborately illustrated the career growth and work atmosphere in rural banking. Mr. Senthil Kumar talked about the effects and influence that rural banking has on the economy of India. Mr. Senthil Kumar shared his own personal experiences and professional expertise related to the field. The highlight of the guest lecture was ‘There is no difference between rural banking and usual banking except the location’. In the interaction session, many interesting questions that the participants had put forth has in turn led to an elaborate discussion on the feasibility of rural banking in India, its relevance in a rural setup and mainly the role that mangers can play in the current scenario.
