Mr. Gouri Shankar, Regional Head, BD, South, NSE, conducted a workshop on Opportunities in Capital Market for I MBA (Batch 2019-21) KCT BS students. The workshop started with the introduction about NSE, from its inception in 1994, to the radical automation that took place, opening a new virtual trading environment. He emphasized that of all the purposes it serves, one, is that even the state and central governments use it as a platform to raise capitals. He also explained about the various groups in the platform. He stated that feedbacks were incorporated from the investors and used for further improvements. Out of the total population the money involved in the financial market only accounts to 3%. He stated that the various verticals include ETF (Exchange traded fund) which mimics the movements of underlying commodity being traded. He then spoke about the relatively newer market venture which is the Currency Market which started by 2008. He went on to speak about Equity Derivatives and Debt Market. He touched upon Non-competitive bidding platforms and the fact that these days a sum as low as INR 10,000 could get someone started on buying government securities, which is a sovereign security with fixed interest rate and hence returns are fixed as well. In the second part of his talk he elucidated the opportunities for graduates in Banking, Financial Services and Insurance industry has now a considerable demand for talent pool and that the potential recruiters look for an inclination in the candidate towards the current financial trends and the affairs in the economy. He emphasized that 80% of potential recruiters look for the keyword, NCFM certification in the candidates.
