The Centre for Operations at KCTBS organized a 4 -day “Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Program” for 26 second year MBA students (2013-15 Batch) of Operation Specialization from August 18- 21, 2014. Mr. K. N. Gopala Krishnan, ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (ISI, Bangalore) was the resource person for the program.
Lean Six Sigma is a rigorous and disciplined methodology that uses statistical analysis to reduce the variability and defectiveness through statistical tools resulting in continuous process improvements which seeks to maximize profit by improving product quality / productivity, streamlining processes, reducing wastage and improving customer service.
Students were trained on using mathematical, graphical and statistical process control tools like Flow Charts, Pareto Charts, Cause and Effect Diagrams and Histograms. The program also included case studies and examples from service, manufacturing and other industries. Students were also trained on DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyse-Improve-Control) methodology which is used when product or process already existing in the company fall below their specifications and need incremental improvement. Hypothesis Testing, Formulating the Null and Alternative Hypotheses, ANOVA, Nonparametric Testing and Correlation and Regression formed a part of the program. Students were assessed, through an examination after the four day training and they have to undertake a project as a part of the certification program. The program was organized by the operations centre and the programme coordinators were Mr. R. Vinayagasundaram. Dr. S. Jaisankar and Dr. V. Kannan ,Associate Professors KCT BS.
