In a follow up with the National Skill Development’s Council’s – Textile Sector Skill Council grant to train the handloom weavers under the PMKVY’s Recognition of Prior Learning (Camp Mode) scheme from December 2019 to March 2020, an online assessment was conducted by Mr.Vignesh Raja, Technical Officer, Textile Sector Skill Council, New Delhi on January 2, 2020. Ms. Deepa, Lab Incharge, CADD Lab, Dept of Fashion Technology, KCT, Mr. T. Deivasigamani, Handloom Weaver, Samathur, Pollachi and Mr. M. Thirumalaisamy, Handloom Weaver, Samathur, Pollachi took part in the assessment. The objective of the assessment was to certify the weavers and experts with rich experience in the job roles of Jacquard Weaver – Handloom, Hank Dyer, Textile Designer by the NSDC – Textile Sector Skill Council, New Delhi.
A sensitization program was organized at Chinna Aranmanai, Samathur on January 3, 2020 for the Weavers of Samathur cluster to sensitize them on the upcoming Prime Minister’s Kaushal Vikas Yojana – National Skill Development Corporation – Textile Sector Skill – Recognition of Prior Learning program starting from January 9, 2020 at Samathur. The Coimbatore Center for Weavers, Kumaraguru College of Technology is authorized by NSDC as a facilitating center to train and certify the weavers of Coimbatore and Samathur cluster. Dr. G. Ramakrishnan, Professor Head – FT and Dr. B. Poongodi, Assistant Professor., KCT. BS are the RPL facilitators for this program approved by TSC, New Delhi.
Mr Vignesh Raja, Technical Officer, Textile Sector Skill Council, New Delhi visited KCT on January 4, 2020 to orient the PMKVY RPL facilitators Dr B Poongodi, KCT Business School and Dr G Ramakrishnan Prof.& HOD -Fashion Tech., on handling National Skill Information portal , trainer registration, program modalities, RPL components and branding documents. Mr. Vignesh Raja also discussed the possibility of collaboration of other sector skills councils for other domains with Dr.J. Srinivasan, Principal, KCT
