As a part of Managerial economics course, a visit to various local market was scheduled on September 20, 2019. 180 students pursuing I MBA (Batch 2019-21) were organized into 36 teams and visited various markets in and around Coimbatore including Fruit market, Flower market, Utensils market, Cosmetics market, Bag market, Mettupalayam vegetable mandi, Uzhavar Sandhai, Ukkadam Fish Market, Anna Vegetable Market –Saibabakovil, Gandhipuram , Electronic Market, Khaderpet Flea Market, Tirupur, Texvalley Market Visit, Turmeric Market , Erode , Vegetable Market, Mettupalayam , Fish Market, Mettupalayam , Vegetable Market, Kothagiri, Old books market, Ukkadam, Coimbatore, Kathar Pettai Cloth Market, Tirupur , Spices Market, Townhall, Coimbatore Ulavar Sandai ,RS Puram , Furniture Market, Food grains market, Coimbatore Coimbatore, Tyagi Kumaran Vegetable Market – Ukkadam and Vegetable Market at Ukkadam, Pet Animals Market.
Students were encouraged to interact with various sellers in each market to understand the market structure. Understanding the characteristics of each market, level of existing competition, pricing mechanism, demand and supply condition, Marketing and selling strategies practiced was the major objective of this visit. The students got to know about markets, nature of products dealt by them, suppliers, logistics, demand–supply mechanism, Price determination, profits, Marketing and selling strategies, type of market structure, customer relationship management and challenges faced by them. Overall students a real time experience of being in the market to understand the entire market mechanism and justify their understanding towards the different type of market structure based on competition.
