KCT emerge winners at Smart India Hackathon 2019

Students from Kumaraguru College of Technology and the KCT Business School team named ‘Sangili Thalavaadam’ won the Smart India Hackathon 2019 at the nodal center SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh for their innovative technology on Smart Retail Technology, which they developed for one of the world’s largest conglomerate – Hindustan Unilever Ltd.
The team consisted of a balanced mix of tech-savvy KCT students as well as a few business students from KCT Business School. The team had Divya R (IT), Shiddharth Saran M (CSE), Surya P (CSE), Kaviarasu K (MBA), Ramkumar (MBA), Sriram Anax (MBA).
The mentors Vignesh Kumaresan, Kalaiselvan from Forge and Dr. Mary Cherian from KCT Business School were highly appreciated. The winning team developed a product to address the problem statement given by HUL which was to understand the customer journey and shopper’s emotions toward products at huge retail stores, so that the company can forecast sales and aid new product development. The technology used by the team was sentiment analysis, object identification, sensors and dashboard.
