Guest Lecture on Life of a Sales Manager by Mr. S. Thiyagu, Area Sales Manager, Bajaj Housing Finance Limited on April 20, 2023.
Mr S. Thiyagu, Area Sales Manager, Bajaj Housing Finance Limited was the Guest Speaker for the session on ‘Life of a Sales Manager’ which was organised by Dr K.R.Senthilvelkumar, Professor, KCT BS from 8.30 AM to 9.45 AM on April 20, 2023, for the 2021-23 batch students of the fourth-semester elective course, ‘Personal Selling’. Mr R. Sudarshan (21MBA156) welcomed the Guest Speaker and introduced him to the audience. Mr S.Thiyagu described the challenges involved in the life of a sales manager and how MBA students need to acquire certain key skills like leadership, empathy, achievement motivation and resilience in order to overcome them effectively. He narrated how a day in the life of a sales manager would start with a huddle, goal setting and other daily routines to end up with several sales closings subsequently. He explained how a career in sales is more rewarding than that of other functional areas despite many hardships. Mr Thiyagu highlighted how the success of many renowned entrepreneurs could be attributed to their initial experience in the field of sales. He advised the future sales managers to lead a life of integrity and steer clear of several tempting traps like bribes from channel partners or customers, bait to disclose confidential data to competitors and involvement in unproductive activities during work hours. He recommended books like Blue Ocean Strategy, Zero to One, Career Warfare and many more to prepare themselves better for a corporate career. Mr. Thiyagu expressed his inclination to visit the KCTBS campus for internships and final placements in the near future.
