BioInoculants – A Field Demonstration at Palladam
On February 19, 2019, Dr.B.Poongodi, Assistant Professor Centre of Marketing organized a field visit to an Agilam Nanjilla Velan Maiyam, an integrated natural farm at Kiradamuthur Village, Puthareesal, Palladam. This visit was a part of the General Interest course on Business Avenues for Organic Agriculture and about 25 students of II MBA (Batch 2017-19) participated in the field visit.
Agriculturist Mr.M.Ponmuthu explained about the advantages of taking up agriculture using organic inputs. He is an advocate of natural way of living and shared that he leads a happy and healthy life. Mr. Ponmuthu gave an orientation on natural farming methods in which he explained about the importance of soil moisture, soil microbes and its conservation, importance of bio mulching, natural predators, rearing indigenous animals along with growing vegetables, crops and plantation.
The students had practical exposure on the natural methods of creating and maintaining an organic farm. There was a field demonstration on preparing Bio-Inoculants which can be used as a growth regulator and also as nutrients for plants. The preparation of Jeevamirtham – a bio inoculant advocated by Shri.Subash Palekar, organic agriculturist, was demonstrated in the field. They explained its benefits for plants and its methods of usage.
Students found the field visit useful as they understood the benefits of using organic inputs for crop cultivation. The students took back awareness on how to avoid inorganic chemical usage and were determined to advocate the same to their parents, friends and relatives.
