Ministry of Education, AICTE, Indian Knowledge System has approved the research proposal titled “Development and Application of natural dyes for reviving handloom and improving human wellness” submitted by Dr G.Ramakrishnan, Professor – Fashion Technology, Dr B.Poongodi, Assistant Professor – Marketing and Dr R.Priyadharsini, HoD & Associate Professor – Fashion Technology. The project was approved after a three-stage rigorous review by a distinguished panel.  A grant of Rs.13,20,000 was sanctioned and an amount of Rs 8,60,000/ was received on 20 January 2023 as the first instalment. Dr B.Poongodi of KCT.BS is the Co-Principal Investigator of this project and will have a key stake in strengthening the business model for heritage handloom textiles. This is her 6th project for the handloom sector since 2016. The other projects were funded by DST – SEED, NSDC-TSC-PMKVY, IGNCA-ABCD and Tamil Nadu Handloom and Textiles.
