A Lean Scheme Awareness Program was conducted on March 22-23, 2018. The program was sponsored by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, EDII Chennai, Govt. of Tamilnadu to promote Lean manufacturing practices in Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs located in Coimbatore industrial estates. KCT Business School organized the Two-day program jointly with TIDITSSIA, Trichy. The primary objective of the program was to create awareness on Lean tools and techniques among SMEs in Coimbatore. To promote lean implementation at select manufacturing units by imparting knowledge and skills to the employees for implementing lean manufacturing practices and explain the importance of lean implementation that enhances productivity and helps in eliminating waste in the organization which are considered essential for productivity and quality improvement of products manufactured.

On March 22, 2018, eight units were visited for a preliminary study to assess lean tools and practices currently adopted and the scope for implementation of Lean Manufacturing. A 40-Point Lean Compliance Assessment Tool was used to evaluate the units. On the next day, the units were briefed on the scope of Lean implementation in individual units and its benefits by applying various tools that could result in wastage reduction and quality improvement. Lean Awareness Program was organized for the members of TIDITSSIA to highlight the benefits of Lean manufacturing and to explain how the small units can benefit from the Lean scheme offered by EDII.
