In a quest to foster the emergence of tech startups from among the young minds of Tamil Nadu, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute-Tamil Nadu (EDI-TN), in collaboration with EDI-TN nodal hub at Kumaraguru College of Technology and FORGE Innovation Accelerator (in Coimbatore) has launched the Regional Startup Activation Program (R-SAP) – 2017.
The main goal of this program is to identify, nurture and fund innovative ideas that have the potential to become innovative products and tech-enabled enterprises. This program was organized in 4 phase’s viz. (1) Startup 101 seminars, (2) Idea Camps & Startup Launcher workshops, (3) Startup Boot Camp & Demo Day, 4) FORGE.FELLOWS program, followed by a selection of the top 3 winning teams.
Over 2000 students attended the Startup 101 seminars organized in 10 cities in Tamil Nadu from over 100 institutions. Over 500 students attended the Idea Camps to discuss, refine and further develop their innovative ideas; Top 75 ideas were selected at the 4 major hubs – Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Thanjavur, for the final Bootcamp in Forge; 3-day Boot Camp with intensive hands-on workshops covering problem validation, customer discovery, MVB concept, customer acquisition & sales, and business models was conducted. The boot camp ensured that all the students received guidance and mentoring, apart from learning tools and techniques in key skill areas as Design Thinking, Prototyping, Business Idea generation, and Pitch creation and presentation. Over 20 entrepreneurs and experts interviewed the Top-45 teams and selected the Top-12 teams that pitched their innovative ideas to the Jury comprising of senior academicians, scientists, veteran entrepreneurs, and bankers.
