As part of the Founder’s Day Celebrations, KCT Business School, Department of Fashion Technology ,KCT and Department of Handloom and Textiles, Government of Tamil Nadu organized an inter-institution Brand Logo Design Contest for Kovai Kora Cotton Saree on March 21, 2019.
Around 114 teams consisting of 228 members registered for the contest. The event was sponsored by State Department of Handlooms & Textiles. Out of the 200 registrations around 150 students from KCT and other colleges from Tamil Nadu participated in the event.
The chief patron of this event, Mr R. Sreedharan, Assistant Director, Department of Handloom and Textiles has supported the team to give shape to this event. The managers from handloom cooperatives and the designers along with the student volunteers supported in bringing aesthetics to the hall where the brand logo contest was planned. Mrs Visalakshi, Senior Manager, Sirumugai Handloom weavers Cooperative Society deliberated on the origin and importance of Kovaikora cotton sarees during the inaugural ceremony.
Dr G Ramakrishnan, HOD/FT gave a warm welcome to all participants and highlighted about our Founder Chairman Arutselvar Dr N Mahalingam contribution to the Handloom weavers and its society. Dr.B.Poongodi, AP/KCTBS shared the instructions for the contest and also proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs Priyadarshini, Freelance Designer, Mr R.Madhuramanan, Professional Photographer, Multimedia & Graphic Designer were the external Jury members ably assisted by Mr S Chandrakumar, Department of Fashion Technology and Mrs A. Latha, KCT Business School. The students were given 2 hours to come up with a basic design of a brand logo for Kovai Kora Cotton Sarees and were given all necessary materials for drawing by the organizers. The drawings were scrutinized by the jury who shortlisted 10 entries from the total entries submitted.
The Shortlisted teams were called for a presentation by the jury to explain their concepts used for designing their logo, from which three entries were shortlisted for the finals. These teams will present to the Assistant Director, Department of Handloom and Textiles. Dr G Ramakrishnan,Head of the department of Fashion technology and Dr B.Poongodi ,Assistant Professor KCT. BS were the Coordinators of the Event.
