On April 26th 2017, KCT.BS hosted a full-day workshop entitled “Multivariate Analysis for Business Research” for the students of Batch 2016-18. A session of the program focusing on “Cluster Analysis” was facilitated by a guest speaker, Dr. S. Murugappan, Professor, School of Management Studies, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology. Dr. S. Murugappan opened his talk by a simple grouping exercise. The session continued with defining Cluster Analysis and Application of Cluster Analysis. The workshop covered various topics such as how to measure similarity, to form clusters and how many groups to form. Finally, a case was discussed on a major Indian FMCG company. An interactive practical session on cluster grouping in SPSS tool was also explained with help of this case study. Another parallel session of the program was facilitated by Dr. M. Kirupa Priyadarsini, Associate Professor, and Center Head – HR, KCT Business School. The title of the talk was on “Discriminant Analysis for Classification”. Dr. M. Kirupa Priyadarsini opened the session by discussing a case study entitled “Will Baahubali Live beyond the Screens? The session continued with defining Discriminant analysis and its applications in business. A practical session was conducted based on the Case study. The session was highly interactive. The workshop helped us to analyze model fitness based on Wilk’s Lambda, analyze the relationship between variables based on Canonical correlation, building the model, prediction or classification of a new member and measuring the accuracy of the model. Post-lunch the students had hands-on exercises on Cluster and Discriminant analysis facilitated by Mr.A.Senthil Kumar, Dr.P.Nalini, and Dr.B.Poongodi.
