Innovative Teaching – DRAMA FESTIVAL 2016 on December 17, 2016

On December 17, 2016, Drama Festival 2016 was organized by KCT Business School in association with Coimbatore Arts and Theatrical Society (CATS). The event was an outcome of the Theatre Arts course that I MBA students’ pursue as part of the general interest courses, which is being offered at KCT BS with an intention to achieve the holistic development. The course, consisting 26 participants of 2016 batch, aimed at teaching the basic elements of Drama like Voice, Imagination, Body and Ensemble. The target participants were split into different ‘departments’ covering: (i) Product (the play – on & back-stage), (ii) Marketing (Promotion strategy, art-work), (iii) Sales (ticketing, collections), and (iv) Finance (cash-flow, sponsorship, accounting etc) to work cohesively towards the common goal of a successful production for campus viewing. Although they learn managerial skills in their regular curriculum, theatre arts, a new creative space, has helped them to practice what has been preached theoretically. Totally three plays were staged: (i) Kean by thespians en from Chennai, (ii) Anton Chekov’s The Defenseless Creature, and (iii) Alice Gerstenberg’s He Said and She Said. The performance, which was planned, organized and exhibited by our students, is a testimony for imparting managerial skills through the course Theatre Arts. The Drama Festival laws organized by Mr. Sethuraman , Assistant Professor and student coordinators
